Hugh Freeze has reached a new deal with Liberty University that will keep him as the school's football coach through the 2028 season. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the deal is for six years at an average of $6.5 million per year. This is a significant increase from Freeze's previous contract, which paid him an average of $4.5 million per year.
Freeze has been a wildly successful coach at Liberty, leading the team to three consecutive bowl games and a 33-12 record in his first three seasons. The Flames have also cracked the AP Top 25 for the first time in school history under Freeze's leadership.
Liberty has shown its commitment to Freeze with this new deal, which is the longest contract extension in the school's history. The contract also includes a clause that would allow Freeze to leave for another job if a Power Five school offers him a contract. However, Freeze has said that he is committed to Liberty and wants to continue building the program into a national contender.
