Lucy Beaumont: Hull is my muse

The writer of TV's Hullraisers and Radio 4's To Hull and Back on her hometown and her comedy

By Lucy Beaumont

Hull is my muse. It's the place I was born and raised, the place I still live, and the place that inspires my writing. I love Hull's people, its history, and its unique sense of humor. I'm proud to be from Hull, and I'm always happy to talk about it.

I started writing comedy when I was a teenager. I was always a bit of a class clown, and I loved making people laugh. When I was 16, I entered a local comedy competition and won. That gave me the confidence to start performing stand-up comedy regularly.

I've been performing stand-up comedy for over 20 years now, and I've toured all over the UK and Ireland. I've also appeared on TV and radio, including Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, and QI.

I've written two books, To Hull and Back and Like An Old Pair of Shoes. To Hull and Back is a memoir about my childhood in Hull, and Like An Old Pair of Shoes is a collection of essays about my life and career.

I'm currently working on a new TV series called Hullraisers. Hullraisers is a sitcom about a group of friends who live in Hull. It's a funny and heartwarming show that celebrates the people and the spirit of Hull.

I'm passionate about Hull. It's a great city with a lot to offer. I'm proud to be from Hull, and I'm always happy to talk about it.
